Penang LRT Project

Penang is set to get its maiden LRT project – a 17.5km elevated stretch linking Komtar with the Penang International Airport.

With construction slated to begin next year, the RM4.5bil project is part of a package of solutions for an island that has long been choking on its traffic.

The LRT project – expected to be awarded in June – will mark the realisation of the long-awaited implementation of the RM27bil Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP), which also includes a 25km expressway linking Bayan Lepas and Tanjung Bungah.

According to reliable sources, Gamuda Bhd, IJM Corp Bhd, and a Chinese company have been shortlisted to undertake the projects, the bulk of which would be funded through land reclamation rights in the state.

The LRT and new expressway will be built using the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) concept, where the PDP will step in to resolve problems should parts of the construction fail to meet construction criteria.

In Penang’s case, should either one of the Malaysian companies get the award, it would have to partner with the Chinese company, especially in the construction of the LRT project.

It would be likewise should the Chinese company win the contract.

Six consortia, including three foreign-Malaysian partnerships as well as three Malaysian public listed companies, have put in their bids following Penang’s invitation last August to qualified companies to serve as the PDP for the PTMP.

The payoff for building the LRT project is the right to reclaim 1,618ha at either the southern part of the island, of which about 485ha will be used for the future expansion of the airport and to expand the Free Industrial Zone, or at a 607ha stretch between the Penang Bridge and the mouth of Sungai Pinang, an area popularly known as the Middle Bank.

Penang Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow had said the appointed PDP must be a reliable partner to guarantee the success of the projects.

“They will have to oversee all the projects estimated at RM27bil. The costs cover highway infrastructure (RM16bil) and public transport (RM9bil), while the institutional costs amount to RM905mil,” he said, adding that Penang alone would foot some RM10bil of the total cost.

In a subsequent interview, Chow said the LRT line – which will be supported by a revamped stage bus system and trams – would be a priority, with completion targeted for five to six years.

In return for their role in realising the state transport master plan, the Chinese company will get to reclaim about 566ha in Seberang Prai, of which 161.8ha is located near the North Butterworth Container Terminal and 404ha near Bagan.

It is learnt that it will take a year to get necessary approvals for the reclamation works,

Chow said some of the projects would fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government.

“The RM10bil allocation from the state does not include the RM6.3bil for the undersea tunnel and three expressway projects,” he said.

The 6.5km road tunnel is planned to run from Gurney Drive to Bagan Ajam in Butterworth. The expressways include a 4.2km bypass from Persiaran Gurney to Persiaran Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, a 4.6km expressway and by-pass from Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway to Bandar Baru Air Itam and a four-lane 12km road linking Tanjung Bungah with Teluk Bahang.

Penang Sky Cab

Penang Chief Minister announced the project Sky Cab to further improve connectivity between its island and the mainland. The proposal would link Penang Sentral Transportation Hub in Butterworth to Nordin Street Ghaut in George Town.

The first phase of the Penang Sky Cab, proposed by Penang Sentral, will feature 40 cabins that could transport about 1,000 passengers both ways per hour. The aerial ride between the mainland and the island is expected to take only 15 minutes.

Lim said the project, which is now at an advanced exploratory stage, is expected to be ready by 2018.

There is also a proposed observation tower in the north channel for passengers to stop and enjoy the view in the middle of the sea.

The project was an initiative of the state government and Penang Sentral, and which was discussed from last year and was in advanced exploratory stage at present. “It will provide an alternative form of travel in an easier, faster and more comfortable way.‘With the implementation, Penang Sentral will become a five-in-one travel hub offering from taxi, buses, train, ferry and Sky Cab services,” he said at a press conference at Komtar here.

The landing point is located on state land outside the heritage zone on the island. With the implementation of Sky Cab, it is expected to extract more tourists to Penang.
Lim said the project will be subject to various approvals and that Penang Sentral and the state government will also get the Penang Port Commission’s (PPC) views on it.
“PPC do not have any objections to it as it does not obstruct the north channel or affect port activities,” he said.

Penang 3D Trick Art Museum

In recent years, the prevalence of the 3D art, the visual effect is more three-dimensional, real, so that the audience can enjoy not only paintings, but also seems to be able to walk into the painting, play a fun.

In Penang, 3D is not only an art gallery, and today is the city to introduce 3D newly opened Museum of Art, called Penang Trick Art Museum, located in Penang Lane (Lebuh Penang), and vegetarian restaurants "dripping Square" of war before the old house in the same row.

The museum is being set up in Penang by six people, among them there are interior designers, painters, sculptors, and other mass media expert, by chance, the individual exert itself to be versatile, contributed to this is known as Penang's first pure hand-drawn 3D museum.

They invested a total of 1.8 million ringgit funds spent six months of preparation, the museum just opened for business on October 25, stage 42 with 3D works, wait Tell me what they experience together.

Feature of the museum is that each piece is hand-painted mural 3D, which is likely to use other 3D printing painting art gallery and different.

To make a richer style of the person in charge to hire 12 artists from home and abroad surgeon, many of whom are local professionals Arts Institute (THE ONE ACADEMY) students prove local talent.

Also, each painting will be consistent to the ground, so that the whole picture which is very Cohesive, but do not like the other 3D museum, as often only take "half-length portrait." Otherwise, the photo will be "Goof" in dilemma.

Variable geometry makes one high and one low

Penang Trick Art Museum to play surprises. There is a room for two people standing side by side pictures.

Hey, how the photo came out, one becomes a giant, one has become a dwarf?

Ask after the original scene in this room playing with the visual illusion of technology, through geometry, law and other means of visual imaging, image-making, visual deceptive conduct deceive the eye.

They have been highly similar, standing on the same platform, and it was "making" into a high, a low, really quite fun.

Must bring their imaginative play snake swallowed

Painting is dead, people are living, want to play 3 D Museum, the best with a rich imagination, as well as the cells come flamboyant theatrical museum, including your fun.

After "big snake" mural, may wish to lie on the ground, painfully stretched out his hands for help, scream or two, if necessary, play a play quickly engulfed the python look.

In addition, when came to "surf" mural, then you can imagine yourself already living in Taiwan Kenting beach, the embodiment of chic beach boy, arms over their heads, body surfing straight, really handsome earthshaking.

Photo stickers make more realistic reference angle

"Magic World", the photo looks like a magician after being hypnotized, like suspended in the air, staged surgery supernatural.

The museum covers an area of 6000 square feet, divided into two main themes, the ground floor of the theme is "Penang history", the theme of the second floor is the "adventure."

Other works include "Zang teacher and student learn," "fast-paced world of butterflies", "bullock cart", "Panda", "ancient" and so on.

Took 90 minutes to finish

The museum has some work to life, there are some in the visual is just okay, slowly enjoy it, through the whole museum takes about 90 minutes.

Make photos more realistic, the organizers wish to refer to the angle provided, they will close arrow stickers on the floor, standing in front of the arrow stickers finder, including correct.

test acting dinosaur attacks

"Dinosaur attacks" mural is the test of individual acting, some people will lie on the ground, "play dead," some people will panic barking. Those who like to play the hero, it may come to a "single-handedly beat the dinosaurs," the drama of it!

Some ladies go the route of the girls, if let go figure lying on the floor to take pictures, it does not matter, because there are many works of this museum is to let u have Sisiwenwen photographed.

Sampan boat scene

Among these, I remember comparing "surname Bridge" painting, the scene really put a sampan boat, let's ride. At that moment, I seem to enter a surname with friends bridge the historical monuments, leisurely cruises, romantic and sentimental experience water of life.

There are retro styling of "tricycle", "rickshaw" scenes, you can make babes ride, enjoy taking pictures fill.

Lightweight dress to complete the task

To this museum fun, best lightweight dress. This is because I walked on, you never know what you may need to lie on the ground, lying down, jumping, to complete the mission.

In addition, there are some scenes need shoes to enter the camera, it is best to wear some shoes off easily, or all day squatting shoelaces, shoes belt, is a waste of time.

Museum is open daily

In order to maintain the operation of the museum entry fee will be levied to the participants, children and senior citizens aged 12 or under charged RM10 per person, adult charges 15 ringgit, 25 ringgit per person of foreign tourists.

Naked and Afraid vs Nude Sport Games

The Nude games participants are under arrest by the local authority after the video leaked to the social media. It was became the local main stream headlines news and repeatedly under public attention. What was actually went wrong to this group of people? Video from the festival – entitled “Nude Sport Games 2014” – quickly went viral after appearing on social media in early August.

The footage showed over a dozen naked people engaged in different activities on a remote beach in Malaysia’s northwestern state of Penang.

According to the video, the program for the naturist event included body painting, dancing and relay races. There were also some unique disciplines during the meetup, including ‘Swim over body,’ in which a nude woman was crawling over the bodies of three naked males, and ‘Gangnam style! Horse dance’ that required a female to ride on a man’s back.

The popularity of the video landed its stars in big trouble, causing outrage among Malaysia’s Muslim population.

Eight of them already surrendered to local police station but police still looking for seven other participants including participants from Myanmar and Philippines.

Police said they were investigating the suspects under Sections 294(a) and 509 of the Penal Code. Section 294(a) states that whoever, to the annoyance of others, does any obscene act in any public place shall be punished with a maximum three months jail or a fine or both.

Under Section 509, a person guilty of using a word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of another can be jailed up to five years or fined or both.

On the another hand, there was a film was aired by Discovery Channel in April 2014- Naked and Afraid in Malaysia http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/naked-and-afraid/videos/naked-in-malaysia.htm . The film also available in Social Media YouTube for public viewing. In this case, there was no punishment by above Penal Code. What would you say and comment about it?

The popular reality television show produced by Renegade 83 Entertainment for Discovery Channel featured firefighter Fernando Calderon and single mother Samantha Pearson, surviving in Malaysian rain forest for 21 days. The programme chronicled the lives of the two, who met for the first time and handling the task of surviving in the wilderness, naked.

According to the source, the episode was shot in Royal Belum Forest in Perak.
Eventhough the episodes went on air on April 13, 2014 in Discovery Channel, the netizens was shocked to find out that the whole episode was shot here in Malaysia.

The Star Cruises Nasi Kandar Cooking Competition 2013 in Penang

The Star Cruises Nasi Kandar Cooking Competition 2013:
Winners of Penang's first ever Nasi Kandar cook-off announced

Hong Kong / Penang, 27 Aug, 2013 – The Star Cruises Nasi Kandar Cooking Competition 2013 onboard SuperStar Libra from 21-23 August 2013 witnessed the rise of new culinary experts. Organizer Star Cruises, the leading cruise line in Asia-Pacific, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of this three-day key event of Genting Hong Kong’s 20th anniversary.

Eastin Hotel’s Junior Sous Chef Mr. Mohd Fauzi Alias, 34, and housewife Ms. Maizatul Shila Bt. Mat Baki, 38, each triumphed over 15 other contestants in their respective professional and amateur categories in the three-day event, the first of its kind held in Penang. Each walked away with a RM5000 cash prize and 2 sets of 4D3N cruise with Oceanview stateroom with window cabin for two onboard SuperStar Gemini.

Ms. Maizatul of Taiping, Perak, burst into tears when her name was announced. “I’m very shocked.  This win is beyond my expectation. This is a dream comes true. I started off cooking only for my six children, and I’ve always cooked curry as my mother-in-law loves it so much. I’m grateful for my husband who has encouraged me to enter the competition.”

This is also Mr. Mohd Fauzi’s first Nasi Kandar cooking competition. He calls himself very lucky. “The other 15 contestants from the Professional Category are far more experienced than me, but I’ve worked hard in perfecting this dish by exchanging notes with my peers in order to produce flavours which suit different customers. I think this helped to capture the taste buds of the judges.”

Silver Medallion Awards went to Ms. Tan Lay Li and Mr. Jayaraj A/L Shanmugam in the Amateur and Professional Categories, respectively. Each received RM2,000 cash and a set of 4D3N cruise with Oceanview stateroom with window cabin for two onboard SuperStar Gemini.

Housewife Ms Tan, 58, is passionate about cooking, especially nyonya food. She was surprised to find herself finishing second. She hopes Star Cruises can organize more cooking competitions and promote this local cuisine to the world.

Mr. Jayaraj A/L Shanmugam, Owner cum Chef of Bountiful Kitchen Restaurant in Penang, was on cloud nine when he heard his name. “I’m really happy to know the judges love my curry fish head. I was a bit worried they wouldn’t like the fusion twist I gave to the authentic recipe,” Chef Raj said.

Student from Penang’s Golden Chef Culinary Academy Mr. Lim Li Wei and Assistant Chef of The Cruises Steak House Mr. Hasbullah Abd Hamid won the Bronze Medallion Awards of the Amateur and Professional Categories, respectively. Each received a RM1,000 cash prize and a set of 3D2N cruise with Oceanview stateroom with window cabin for two onboard SuperStar Gemini.

It was a memorable day for Lim, 26, to have won second runner up in his first cooking competition. “This competition surely has honed my culinary skills. What I’ve learned here is something I can’t learn from school.”

Hasbullah, 32, said his winning of second runner up will boost his confidence in Indian-Muslim cooking, and this experience will encourage him to participate in more competitions in the years to come.

Other than the Medallion Awards, seven Guests’ Choice Awards were given out. The judges for the awards were randomly selected passengers from not only Malaysia, but also around the world such as Australia, Iran, Pakistan and India. The winners are:
