Penang Bridge International Marathon - Penang Bridge, at 13.5km, is one of the world longest bridge. Since Sept 1985, more than 130,000 vehicles ply across the Penang Bridge daily and this monumental bridge is only closed to traffic once a year for only ONE occasion.......The Penang Bridge International Marathon! Penang Bridge is a vital link connecting Penang Island and Perai on the mainland of West Malaysia. It provides an efficient, fast and most convenient passage to motorists with a modest traveling time of approximately 11 minutes during peak hours and 9 minutes during off-peak (speed limit of 70km/hour). As one of Asia’s longest bridge, this national icon is has played an important role as the catalyst for economic development for the State of Penang.

Please note that between 1am to 3am, road to Queensbay Mall will be closed as we will be getting ready for Full Marathon's flag off. It will only re-open after the last Full Marathon runner finished this first 7km. If you are coming to Queensbay Mall, best to come in before 1am or after 3am. Penang Bon Odori Celebration – Bon Odori is a Japanese traditional summer dance celebration where people perform folk dances to show appreciation for family and ancestors as well as to welcome ancestral spirits to earth.

IF you have not experienced the Bon Odori festival before, click here keep follow up the calender of Bon Odori in Penang, The event will be held at the Esplanade each year. There will be a fireworks show on that night.

Thai Buddhist Temple in Penang

1. Wat Chaiya Mangalaram

Wat Chaiya Mangalaram was built as a Buddhist temple on the 30th May 1845. According to the record available, the idea of granting the land as a permanent endowment for religious benefit of Thailand was first mooted by the governor, Mr. W.I. Butterworth. A formal grant was made by the East India Company on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Victoria to representative of the community. Since then, the land has remained in trust to this present day.

The main attraction of Wat Chaiya Mangalaram is the reclining Buddha statue (Luang Phor Chiya Mangol), which was built during 25th century of the Buddhist Era (1957). With length of 108 ft and 32 ft in height makes it the largest in Malaysia and third largest in the world. Skilled sculptor were engaged from Thailand to design the decorative and artistic value of the monument, including drawings of the life story Lord Buddha. There are about 30,000 Buddha image inside the hall. Also an iconography of ancient Buddha and Bodhisatta images of various type from Cambodia, Ceylon, Vietnam, China, Japan, Loas and Thailand are being exhibited in the hall.

To further enhance the unique beauty of the temple, the committee decided to erect a 40ft tall pagoda adjacent to the reclining Buddha building.

Years later, more buildings came up with the donation of kindhearted devotees. Today, Wat Chaiya Mangalarm is one of the most famous tourist spots in Penang.

Wat Buppharam is a Thai Buddhist temple located at Jalan Perak in Penang. The name Wat Buppharam means "flower temple", and is one of the common names for temples in Thailand. Among the locals in Penang, the Wat Buppharam here is often called Temple of the Lifting Buddha, on account of the century-old Buddha image in the temple. It was founded in 1942 by Phothan Srikheaw, a Thai Buddhist monk, who acted as the first abbot of the wat. Wat Buppharam is busiest during the Loy Krathong Festival. It is where the procession starts, with devotees bearing the colorful "krathong" or floral offerings, making their way from the temple at Jalan Perak, through Jalan Burma, Lorong Burma, passing Wat Chaiyamangkalaram and Dhammikarama, to Persiaran Gurney, where they are placed in the sea.

Wat Buppharam is one of the two temples often involved in the staging of Thai festivals such as Loy Krathong and Songkhran.

Penang is a state in Malaysia we called it 'has it all for you'. Penang has clean and long beaches, rich multi-cultural events, heritage building and places, natural reserved forest, best street food and now Penangites can enjoy the king of all fruits - durian. Durian will harvest in June-July. The durian in Penang are variety. You can find those you never try before, the aroma is so good, you are certainly lovely till licking fingers and wanted to try some more.

The areas where you can find durian plants are Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang. There are also different durian name. D15, D11, D17, D600, D700, Hor Loh, Ling Fong Jiau, Ooi Kyau, Xiao Hong, Ang Heh..etc The price per piece is around RM15-25 depends on the grade. Some they sell in kilogram.

For Penangites, you can also book one day tour to the durian farm, have it all day durian there, at the same time you can enjoy nature, learn how to differentiate the durian grade and also how to open the durian. You just pay one sum of money (RM45-50) and eat all you can!
