The Inflatable Rubber Duck next stop maybe to Penang Island Malaysia after last residing at Victoria Harbour Hong Kong. Penang George Town may be the best location as the sea is calm and attractions around the Heritage city, the Ferry, Marina Bays and Penang Bridge.

The Rubber Duck appearances definitely will be the new attraction for Penang and will boost up the tourism industry as well. The creator of the giant rubber duck, Florentijn Hofman tried to entertain the world by a tour named "Spreading joy around the world" established in 2007. Penang Bridge Marathon - Fun Run

Penang Bridge Marathon 2012 is the last marathon for 1st Penang Bridge. Next year marathon will be held at Penang 2nd Bridge (which is now still under construction). Many years back i took part in Penang Bridge full marathon, i still remember how stressful and painful of both my leg. Very fortunate, i managed to finish the run, but have to take almost a week to rest down because both leg can't really walk properly after the run.

This round due to aging, i just go for Fun Run. You can see the different - a lot of fun, no pain, no stress!! See the picture and video i took along the fun run.

 

Many just take a walk and run for fun, bring along family members, to enjoy the sweeps, the beautiful scenery, no traffics, fresh morning air and sun shine. Your mind and soul became so relax when you walk on the Penang Bridge which is totally no traffics.

Penang second Bridge

The Penang Second Bridgei s a new bridge under construction in Penang, Malaysia. It will connect Batu Kawan on the mainland Seberang Perai and Batu Maung on Penang Island.

 

 It will be the second bridge to link the island to the mainland after Penang Bridge. The total length of the RM 3 billion bridge is 24 km (15 mi) and will become the longest bridge in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) expected to start work on the second Penang bridge in November 2008 for completion in 2013.

The first bridge linked straight into Gelugor to Seberang with 13.5km Penang Bridge, which opened to traffic in September 1985, brought welcome relief as it enabled traffic from the island to mainland.

But over the years, traffic has built up again, especially during to and back office hours. Also during the festival seasons when people from outstation coming back to Penang for holidays. The 1st Penang Bridge also has been expanded one more lane for car.

With the development of the second Penang Bridge, it will create more business opportunity and constructions and the Batu Kawan, Batu Maung throughout the coastal area on the south.

Penang Traffic

More and more traffic jam can be seen especially before and after office hours in Penang Island and Penang Bridge. You can see the car moving slow, bumper to bumper and is really testing the Penangites driving patience. In the festival seasons, the traffic flow into Penang Island is heavier than usual. Most of the town area packed with the cars. Due to lack of sufficient public transport system like LRT, the Penangites are mainly travel from one place to another by own vehicle. That is why the number of vehicles either cars or motorbikes are getting more in Penang now.

The traffic jam can be seen most of the time at the junction to Penang Bridge towards Butterworth and also the 'tunnel' to George Town for those cars from Butterworth. The bridge traffic hopefully can be release when the second Penang Bridge is completed. Those workers who work in Bayan Lepas and Seberang Jaya Industrial Estates are encouraged to use B.E.S.T (Bridge Express Shutter Transit) as part of the Penang State to reduce the vehicle flow into Penang Bridge as well as to reduce some of the burden in petrol and toll fees.

Time that wasted on the road especially caught in jammed are probably the non-productive time for the Penangites. How this can be resolved? Penangites are advisable to check on the Penang Bridge Traffic Check on the website before departure if they want to cross the bridge. Penang Bridge 槟威大桥

The Penang Bridge (Jambatan Pulau Pinang in Malay) is a dual-carriageway toll bridge that connects Gelugor on the island of Penang and Seberang Prai on the mainland of Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula. The bridge is also linked to the North-South Expressway in Prai and Jelutong Expressway in Penang. It was officially opened to traffic on September 14, 1985. The total length of the bridge is 13.5 km (8.4 miles), making it among the longest bridges in the world, the longest bridge in the country as well as a national landmark. Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd (PBSB) is the concession holder which manages it. The bridge was designed by a local Penang resident, Tan Sri Datuk Professor Ir. Chin Fung Kee, a well known authority in geotechnical engineering and former acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Malaya.

Before 1985, transportation between the island and the mainland was solely dependent on the state-owned Penang Ferry Service that runs between Butterworth and George Town. Similar to the ferry services in Penang, toll is only paid when heading to the island. There is no charge for leaving the island.

Currently, the Penang Bridge handles 65,000 vehicles daily and has a capacity of handling 85,000 vehicles daily. It has been expanded from 4 lanes to 6 lanes to accommodate the increasing traffic on the bridge. A proposal for a second bridge, the Penang Second Bridge, has been approved by the Malaysian federal government and included as one of the Ninth Malaysia Plan national projects. Construction work of the new Penang Second Bridge began in November 2008, and the target completion date is year 2013.

Recently, the Penang Bridge was assigned its own route number 36.


槟威大桥于1979年开始兴建，1985年建成通车。大桥跨跃面方海峡，把海峡两岸的槟榔屿与马来半岛上的威斯利连接起来，所以称为槟威大桥。大桥长达8320米，是世界上第三大桥，桥拱下可通行万吨巨轮。

槟威大桥的建成，使槟榔屿的旅游业得到进一步发展。人们可以开车从吉隆坡出发，取道南北高速公路直达槟城，当从桥上驶过时还可领略海港风光。从马来半岛到槟城要收过桥费，但从槟城到大陆旅行则勿须交付任何过路费。从大陆到槟城也可以坐渡轮，由于渡轮收费低廉，很多人仍喜欢乘渡轮过海峡。

槟威大桥位于马来西亚槟城州，是槟城州的著名地标。这长达13.5公里的大桥连接槟城州的槟岛和对岸的威省。在威省，槟威大桥和南北大道相接，可直接通往马来西亚半岛西海岸的大小城镇或北上泰国和南下新加坡。 槟威大桥在1985年9月14日正式通车。在1985年之前，渡轮是通往槟岛和威省之间的主要交通工具。
