Have been travelling to IKEA South East Asia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. IKEA has set ONLY one shopping mall in a country. But Ikano Pte Ltd, the franchisee for IKEA in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, formed a joint venture with local company, Aspen Vision Land Sdn Bhd, to develop the integrated shopping mall in Batu Kawan, with IKEA as anchor tenant. That means IKEA to open 1st store outside Damansara, PJ Malaysia.
Penangites no need to travel to Petaling Jaya to shop for their famous furnishing brand IKEA products, they have chance to shop at Batu Kawan which is now linked with Penang Second Bridge from Batu Maung Penang Island. The planning of constructions will begin by 2015 and expected to open doors in year 2020. Nevertheless, Penangites has to wait and patience for the good news.
The new mall is part of the Batu Kawan development including a RM1 billion project consisting of an upmarket outlet shopping mall, a 300-room international-class hotel and a branch campus of Britain’s University of Hull.
