Today a Food Gallery with 200 offerings of dishes has opened on the first floor of the fourstorey shopping mall in Penang Times Square managed by Bali Hai Group. It is one of Penang’s largest food courts with a total of 20 stalls serving up to 200 types of food from over 15 countries as well as Penang’s hawker delights. FEATURING VARIETY, GREAT AMBIENCE, COMFORT & CONVENIENCE

This large 40,000 sq ft food court on the 1st floor is easily accessible via an outdoor escalator from the parking lot at the ground floor. Prices are kept affordable for all food items plus there are many varieties to choose from, all served with localized taste and impressively presented. Ample car parking with 200 bays on the ground floor and another 500 on the fourth floor is available where the 1st hour parking is free at Chin Ho Plaza. Additionally, there will also be about 150 bays at the basement car park of Phase 2 that is soon to be completed.

FOCUSING ON FOOD QUALITY & CONSISTENCY

Apart from varieties, what makes this Food Mall special is the focus on hygienic handling and preparation of food under the watchful eyes of the Chef Department. This department will operate a central kitchen to ensure food hygiene is maintained and the quality of food prepared is consistent. Furthermore, it is also able to introduce new cuisine faster to discerning diners.

PENANG’S ‘MUST SEE & EXPERIENCE’ DESTINATION!

Visitors, be it local or foreigners must make sure they do not miss out ‘grabbing a bite’ out of Penang’s food haven at Penang Times Square. They can indulge in an array of local and international cuisine where the ambience is comfortable, attractive and grand unlike any other typical food court. The Food Gallery boasts fresh creative interior design that adds to a lively atmosphere. Furthermore, It’s just like walking into a restaurant but there are 20 different ones situated within one large place. What’s most attractive is that
patrons have 200 choices of local and international food at reasonable prices starting at only RM4.50.

THE OFFICIAL OPENING

Present to officiate the opening of the Food Gallery were YB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, EXCO for Local Government, Traffic Management and Environment and YB Tuan Ng Wei Aik, State Assemblyman for KOMTAR. The VIPs who were also present to mark the opening by cutting a ribbon at the Food Gallery entrance included Ivory’s Chairman Group / CEO Dato’ Low Eng Hock and Deputy Chairman & Executive Director, Dato’ Seri Nazir Ariff as well as Bali Hai Group’s Managing Director, Mr Chua Lye Hooi. Ivorycares, Ivory’s charitable arm, prepared some entertainment such as a clown and magician plus gifts for the ‘special guests’ who were treated to a sumptuous lunch at the Food Gallery. YB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow stated that he was glad to see that while celebrating the opening of its new food court, Ivory has not forgotten the less fortunate especially those within the local community, an exemplary deed which other developers should follow.

THE FOOD MALL

Phase 1 of Penang Times Square is well on its way to reposition itself as a Food Mall. There are more and more visitors flocking over to Penang Times Square who have become regulars especially at the F&B outlets. The recent opening of Soju Club which comprises a club, beer garden and café is spicing up the night pub scene in George Town. It is where an internationally acclaimed eight-piece live band, Crush, is playing to packed audience nightly. Also, the newly opened restaurants that have been pulling in the crowd are Kochabi, a Taiwanese restaurant and Face to Face Noodles House. Patrons can also look forward to the opening of Tao, an Asean Ala-crate Buffet Restaurant with 15,000 sq ft of dining space catering to 250 people and a Chinese restaurant called Ming Garden that can accommodate over 1000 people. Ming Garden has 20,000 sq ft of dining space which will be ideal for wedding reception and corporate functions.

The Penang Times Square will soon be a hive of activities for those looking for entertainment, not just pubs but also karaoke for the family, more shopping outlets and fine-dining restaurants. The air of festivities will attract city dwellers to gather at the adjacent Chin Ho Plaza open space to take part and attend the many outdoor events, concerts, lifestyle activities and sports competitions that are in the planning board. When fully operational, the Food Mall at Penang Times Square will be the next happening place in George Town and the first food mall in the northern states.

Penang Traffic

More and more traffic jam can be seen especially before and after office hours in Penang Island and Penang Bridge. You can see the car moving slow, bumper to bumper and is really testing the Penangites driving patience. In the festival seasons, the traffic flow into Penang Island is heavier than usual. Most of the town area packed with the cars. Due to lack of sufficient public transport system like LRT, the Penangites are mainly travel from one place to another by own vehicle. That is why the number of vehicles either cars or motorbikes are getting more in Penang now.

The traffic jam can be seen most of the time at the junction to Penang Bridge towards Butterworth and also the 'tunnel' to George Town for those cars from Butterworth. The bridge traffic hopefully can be release when the second Penang Bridge is completed. Those workers who work in Bayan Lepas and Seberang Jaya Industrial Estates are encouraged to use B.E.S.T (Bridge Express Shutter Transit) as part of the Penang State to reduce the vehicle flow into Penang Bridge as well as to reduce some of the burden in petrol and toll fees.

Time that wasted on the road especially caught in jammed are probably the non-productive time for the Penangites. How this can be resolved? Penangites are advisable to check on the Penang Bridge Traffic Check on the website before departure if they want to cross the bridge. Hope all Penangites will work together to overcome this Penang Traffic issues. Hope Penangites able to enjoy the stress free and healthy lifestyle soon!

Penang Sakura blossom

Around Feb to Mar each year, the 'Sakura' trees in Penang will blossom. You can see the flowers blossom and dropping on the streets along the road in Bayan Baru. Called the Tabebuia Rosea in scientific terms, these flowers sprout in colours of white, pink, and pastel purple leaving trails of fluffiness on the ground and making it the most eye-catching Penang scenery of the month. Penangites need not to go to Japan to see the Japan Sakura, the 'Sakura' Penang blossom as beautiful and magnificent that you seen in Japan. A good opportunity for Penang Municipal Council to plant more 'Sakura' trees in Penang Island and Seberang Prai as part of promoting Penang Tourism.

Also known as  Pink Tecoma or Rosy Trumpet tree, this species is native in Central and South America at thetropical belt. Commonly found growing from sealevel to 1,200 m (3,937 ft), in temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C on average, with annual rainfall above 500 mm, and on soils with very variable pH (Wikipedia ~ Tabebuia Rosea).

Penang Free Ride Service (B.E.S.T)

One of the best solution to reduce traffic on the Penang Bridge is to take public transport or car poll system. Now Penang Government implemented the B.E.S.T (Bridge Express Shuttle Transit) system for the workers in the F.I.Z (Free Industrial Zone) between Bayan Lepas and Seberang Prai. The workers can save the petrol or toll fees up to RM250. They just needed to pay for the parking fees at the B.E.S.T (Park and Ride) points.
A bus shelter was being built at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya which would be the initial pick-up and drop off point, while 50 to 60 stops would be put up in front of various factories in Bayan Lepas.

Penang Government hopes this B.E.S.T program will release some of the burden facing by the lower income group due to the fuel price increased tremendously within a short period.
